Painting Foundations with Alice

✨ Foundations of Mixed Media and Acrylic Painting
6-Session Skill-Based Workshop ~

Students will complete a finished,  mixed media bird painting while learning core principles of drawing, value, color theory, material stability, and expressive mark-making.

The goal of this course is to give students the tools to approach painting with greater confidence. Anyone can create something beautiful when they have the right tools in their toolbox. This class offers hands-on experience with those tools and lays a strong foundation for creating art with clarity, intention, and confidence.

We will still have classes every Tuesday evening and the last Saturday of the month, and I would also like to add one Saturday class on May 16 to equal 6 total sessions.

The dates are:

  • May 5 (Tuesday) – 6pm
  • May 12 (Tuesday) – 6pm
  • May 16 (Saturday) – 11am
  • May 19 (Tuesday) – 6pm
  • May 26 (Tuesday) – 6pm
  • May 30 (Saturday) – 11am

Lesson outline:

  • Lesson 1: Drawing Foundations & Proportion – Focus: Accuracy, body mechanics, and proportion tools
  • Lesson 2: Understanding Value & Acrylic Washes – Focus: Value structure and blocking in
  • Lesson 3: Color Theory & Value Development – Focus: Complementary color relationships and mixing
  • Lesson 4: Mixed Media, Stability & Expressive Mark-Making – Focus: Material knowledge and artistic voice
  • Lesson 5: Continue Bird Painting & Refinement with instructor guidance
  • Lesson 6: Finishing the Painting – Elements of Art and how they function within a painting & how to know when it’s finished

Course Cost: $175/participant ~ Limit 10 students ~ All materials provided
